2012 Festival Scholarships

2012 Forms are posted below!Any high school senior or high school graduate who resides in one of the six counties that comprise the Upper Ohio Valley - those being Jefferson and Belmont County, Ohio and Hancock, Brooke, Ohio and Marshall County, West Virginia - and who plans to attend or is attending college is eligible to apply for a 2011 Italian Festival Scholarship. Fourteen general scholarships are awarded, two per County, and two special awards, without regard to the student's ethnicity, race or religion.General Scholarship Criteria:The applicant must be a 12th Grade student or a high school Graduate planning to attend or attending college.The applicant must be a full-time resident of Jefferson or Belmont County, Ohio, or Hancock, Brooke, Ohio or Marshall County, West Virginia.The value of the Scholarship and the number of Scholarships awarded annually will be determined solely by the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Foundation Scholarship Trustees through the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.The Scholarship is a one-time award only. Eligible students may re-apply for the Scholarship annually.Scholarship applicants will be judged upon the following criteria: Character, Leadership, Scholarship, Community Service, Participation in School Activities, and Financial Need.To be eligible for a Scholarship, a candidate must have earned at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, a minimum composite score of 18 on the ACT and/or a total SAT score of 800.Scholarship applicants must submit a short essay discussing their educational goals.

Sinicropi AwardThe winner of the Michael J. Sinicropi Award is a student from any of the six designated counties who plans to pursue a college degree in Broadcast Journalism. The late Mr. Sinicropi was a longtime board member and past chairman of the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival. As a service to the Italian-American community, Mike hosted the Italian Hour on WEIR 1430 AM Radio in Weirton each Sunday for 53 years.
