The Italian Festival Kitchen offers you fine, time-tested recipes for many dishes, including appetizers, entrees and desserts.These recipes were tested and approved by Chef Marian Paravano Grubor, Director of the Culinary Arts Program at West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling. The Italian Language

A common language is the basic ingredient that binds a culture. Imagine the relief of many freshly-arrived immigrants as they navigated through busy, unfamiliar American streets, only to overhear their native language being spoken by strangers in the marketplace! Common language was one way for immigrants to keep private identity intact while integrating into public life as an American.The Italian Language-- Now and ThenThe Italian language is regarded by many people to be one of the most beautiful in the world, full of musicallity and an almost liquid grace. The heavily-voweled word endings force the voice to scale up and back in a rhythmic manner, sweeping all syllables into a lilting cadence. At times, Italian seems less spoken than sung.Italian developed as a vernacular from the Latin of the Romans, hence its designation as a Romance language. Different geographical regions of the European continent under Roman influence also lay claim to the Romance classification for their languages. The development of varied and divergent languages, such as Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian, are the result of far-flung civilizations over a 2000-year period putting their own regional spin on the same Latinate linguistic stamp.

Modern-day Italy has only been in existence since 1871. Before then, it was a loose collection of provinces, cities, towns and villages. The culture we know as 'Italian', however, is as old as history itself.
